Mixlr: beta-testing update

Earlier this week, we announced that the next beta version of the Mixlr broadcasting application will be available for both Microsoft Windows and Mac OSX. Since then, we’ve been overwhelmed by the excitement, and the number of requests we’ve received to beta-test.

High-quality audio broadcasting, made easy

Mixlr makes it easy to get your broadcasts online in real-time. We remove the hassle of setting up your own broadcasting station, a task that was previously difficult to accomplish. Our tight integration with Facebook and Twitter makes getting listeners easy, and when you’re finished you can save your broadcast, in high-quality audio, online.

Mixlr: what’s changing

We decided some time ago that we want Mixlr to be available to as many broadcasters as possible. This has meant re-writing our broadcasting application from scratch, a process we’ve almost completed. We’ve built the new app using the latest cross-platform web and audio technologies. You’ll notice a marked improvement in the way the applications looks, and the new architecture will also allow us to expand Mixlr more easily in the future.

Closer integration with scheduling

We’ve redesigned the desktop app to integrate tightly with our scheduling service. This makes it easier to connect a live broadcast with one that you’ve already scheduled. We’ve also added a test broadcast mode, which allows you to conduct soundchecks without publishing to the Mixlr newsfeed.

Better connectivity

We’ve also significantly improved the way Mixlr handles poor internet connections: if your internet connection is broken during a broadcast, the desktop application will try to re-connect until it is successful.

Beta-testers: structure for beta-testing

As we mentioned, we’ve been blown away by the number of offers we’ve received to help test the app already. Over the next few weeks we will gradually invite more and more users to join the beta. We’ve tried to respond to everybody who offered their help, but if we’ve missed you then don’t worry: we’ll be in touch via Facebook, Twitter or email in the coming weeks.

Thanks again

Once again, a massive thank-you to everybody who’s been involved with Mixlr so far. As ever, we welcome your feedback and comments: hit us on Twitter, our feedback forum or email with anything you’ve got.

Happy broadcasting!
