In this article we’re going to show you how to broadcast a playlist live using our Desktop Application.
Step 1 – Install the Mixlr desktop application
Download our broadcasting app here.
Step 2 – Log in to the app
You can login to the desktop app using Facebook or if you signed up with an email address, enter your username and password.
Step 3 – Choose your audio source
You will see three channels; Playlist, External Source and Microphone. You can broadcast using just one or all three of these at the same time if you wish. Here’s how to operate the playlist:
Broadcast any local audio file using the playlist option:
Select Open Playlist:
Select Add Sounds :
Choose which audio file you want to use to add this to your playlist:
Continue adding as many audio files you’d like to your playlist following the same method.
You can reorder your playlist by dragging and dropping the files using this icon:
Simply right click on your track to play it, remove it, add further tracks and clear the playlist:
Step 4 – Check you are receiving signal
Whichever channel you use, you will need to ensure the app is receiving the audio. Each channel has it’s own VU meter which you will see moving if the audio is being received:
Step 5 – Adjust audio levels
Use the faders to adjust and control the volume of the channel:
Keep an eye on the Main out bar which indicates how loud your broadcast will be for your listeners, try to stay out of the red:
Tip – If you’re not using a channel, switch it off:
Step 6 – Choose a title and category for your broadcast
Get to the admin section of your broadcast here:
Here you can choose a title and category for your broadcast:
TIP – Selecting the best suited category will help attract the right listeners to your broadcast
Choose if you would like to record your broadcast:
You can change your mind at any time during the broadcast if you decide to record or stop recording.
Choose if the broadcast is a test or not:

Step 7 – Go live
Once you’ve setup your broadcast and given it a title and category, you’re ready to go live!
You can go live directly from the channels view or from the admin view, the choice is yours:
Once live, listeners will be able to hear your broadcast live from your Mixlr page. They can chat and heart whilst listening. Within the app you can see how many people are listening to your broadcast and how much they’re chatting and hearting:
Step 8 – Share your broadcast
Once you’re live, tell everyone about it! Select the share icon:
Here you can choose to share a link to your broadcast on Facebook, Twitter or Email:
Step 9 – Stop Broadcasting
You can stop your broadcast the same way in which you start it, from either the channel view or the admin view:
Step 10 – Publish to your showreel
Once you’ve stopped broadcasting you will receive a message asking you if you wish to publish to your showreel:
If you choose yes, it will save to your showreel straight away, if you select later, the broadcast will remain in your unsaved showreel list to be published when you’re ready. Find out how to access your unpublished showreel items here.
