Mixlr broadcaster profile: Meltdown City

n the first of a series of blog posts, we’re profiling Mixlr’s users and regular shows and looking at how they use Mixlr’s live broadcasting tools. This week, it’s the turn of regular broadcaster Meltdown City.

Meltdown City is a weekly 3-hour broadcast hosted by DJs Midas (John Midas Manning) and SP1 (Shawn Spalding). John and Shawn are based in Manchester, New Hampshire, USA.

As well as the hosts, who double as resident DJs, Meltdown City hosts a different guest DJ from the North-east USA every week. Previous guests have included Frydae, Vicious (Netwerk One) and K-Swiss (F500). Meltdown City has no boundaries on what their guests play, but they say they avoid commercial stuff like top 40, reggaeton and hip-hop. You can get a better idea by listening to Meltdown City’s previous broadcasts on Mixlr.

So who are the residents? John has been DJing since the late 80s, and has a busy schedule across the North-east US. Shawn has been DJing for 12 years and also plays out regularly. Both are part of the Fortune 500 crew, who have been keeping electronic underground music fresh in New England since 1994. And they seem to be doing a pretty awesome job of it.

Meltdown City is broadcast every Tuesday night from 9pm – midnight EST, with the recording available on Mixlr shortly afterwards.
