Featured Broadcast: Metropolis Group ‘Christmas Power Down’

The latest featured broadcast is Metropolis Group’s ‘Christmas Power Down’ in association with Mixlr, PRS for Music, and Teenage Cancer Trust.  Metropolis Studios are one of Europe’s finest independent recording, mastering and production facilities, with numerous studios across London.

Power Down is a monthly showcase of the best new musical talent to come through their prestigious studios, and so far the events have showcased over 100 new acts since their launch in June 09, many of whom have gone on to achieve great success.

The next showcase is on the 6th December and will be streamed LIVE on Mixlr from 7.30 GMT. Let’s take a look at the acts:

Rickstar:

Young singer Rickstar has been inspired by artists ranging from Motown legends such as Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and Diana Ross & The Supremes, to new school artists such as Brandy, Outkast, Ceelo Green, Amy Winehouse and Adele.  Rickstar developed his own unique style by combining his love and influences of music from ‘back in the day’ with a new school flavour.

His current single, “Beat of my Heart” is a shining example of this – with a catchy beat and fantastic vocals it really is the perfect blend.  With his 3 “Diana Ross and the Supremes” styled backing singers/dancers, who make up the trio “The Rick’ettes”, Rickstar quite literally evokes a nostalgic feeling that is both heart warming and entertaining.

Laura Steel

Dubbed ‘the British Pink’ and hailing from Sheffield, the home of Roisin Murphy, Arctic Monkeys, Pulp and the Human League, Laura Steel is a charismatic, enigmatic power-pop diva… with looks that kill and hooks that leave a mark like a sonic lipstick kissed stain on your psyche. Already a huge success independently, Laura Steel is a fiercely dedicated performer and songwriter who has shared the stage with the likes of Pixie Lott and Diana Vickers, and wowed crowds at festivals all across the UK including this year’s O2 Wireless Festival.

A skilled songwriter and lyricist, Laura writes her own material, and is fully involved in the creative process from designing her own artwork through to crafting her own unique personal style. Currently putting the finishing touches to her highly anticipated debut album, Miss Steel has been recording with Brian London (Rihanna/Lady Gaga/Bruno Mars), Tina Parol (Britney), Justin Trugman (Eminem/The Saturdays), Marc Nelkin (Ke$ha), and Klaus Derendorf (Pussycat Dolls/Cheryl Cole).

Rosanna

18 year old Rosanna has had a love of music since early childhood, from first hearing her mother play piano in the family home.  “I wanted to be like her so much, that I just started learning it myself. After finding a guitar for the first time, I realised that this is what I wanted to do”.

With influences ranging from Carole King to Alicia Keys, the sweet songwriting, vocal, and rap capabilities of Rosanna are way above her age. After a spell of recording at Metropolis Studios, 2012 looks to be a very exciting year for the young musician.
