How to: Broadcast a Skype call live on Mixlr using Windows

We’re going to explain how to easily broadcast a Skype conversation live on Mixlr using Windows. Follow the steps below & we’ll get you sorted quickly and easily!

**To avoid feedback, make sure you have your headphones plugged in**

1. Download and install Skype & Audacity

2. Download and install the Mixlr App

It’s now time to set-up both Mixlr & Audacity for live broadcasts via Skype. We’ll start with Audacity first.

3. Navigate to Edit > Preferences (Ctrl + P);

4. Select Devices and ensure Playback Device is set to Speakers and Recording Device is set to Microphone. Keep Channels set to 2 (Stereo). 

5. Whilst still in Preferences, navigate to Recording and check the boxes Overdub Software

6. Press the “upside down” triangle near the microphone in the middle of the top bar and select Start Monitoring. You should then hear the ambient noise around you played from the speakers, reflected by the green and red moving bars.

Audacity is now all set up and ready to use – let’s get Mixlr set up and we’ll be ready to broadcast Skype calls live!

7. Open the Mixlr App and select Setup Broadcast

8. Select Change near the audio settings. Be sure Speakers is selected as an audio source and No monitoring is selected as the audio output. Press Save settings.

9.  As always, be sure to select a broadcast title and category. Once you do this, you’re all set and ready to go.

10. Press the Broadcast Now button in the Mixlr App, open Skype & begin your call, and you’re all set to go! Simply send your Mixlr URL to allow folks to tune in.
